New Song for the "Unknown/Underrated" Archives

I hope that you are all taking the time to check out this weekly feature.  I will only include what I believe to be great "undiscovered" songs.  This one was never released as a single, included on the debut album Close To You by the Carpenters.  40 years later, the song still hasn't been given its due, yet there are signs that it continues to grow in popularity as new people discover it every day.

Karen, of course, is recognized as one of the great voices of all-time, and this is certainly one of her best performances.  The song's key perfectly fits her hauntingly beautiful alto voice.  You'll want to hear this song again and again after you take the first step.  I have included a link to a great YouTube video by Ned Nickerson that accompanies the song.  As always, you can find it in the Unknown/Underrated Section at the top right of this web site.  And, you'll be able to find it forever in the Tab at the top of the page as well.

    Green September

    Burned to October brown

    Bare November

    Led to december’s frozen ground

    The seasons stumbled round

    Our drifting lives are bound

    To a falling crescent noon

    Feather clouds cry

A vale of tears to earth

    Morning breaks and

No one sees the quiet mountain birth

Dressed in a brand new day

The sun is on it’s way

    To a falling crescent noon

    Somewhere in

    A fairytale forest lies one

Answer that is waiting to be heard

    You and I were

    Born like the breaking day

    All our seasons

    All our green Septembers

    Burn away

    Slowly we’ll fade into

    A sea of midnight blue

    And a falling crescent noon
